So you just come home from purchasing your new DVD Upscaler, or you spent $600 wasted dollars on a Playstation 3. You unpack your electronic goodies with all the zeal of a perv at the local nudie bar. You have a space cleared in your entertainment center for your new toy. You grab the flashlight to see where everything gets plugged in and you realize that your new gizmo’s stingy ass didn’t include an HDMI or DVI cable.
No problem. You’ll take a trip down to the local big box retailer of your choice and pick one up. You asked the pimply faced resident nerd to help you locate the connection that will properly display your Hentai videos or choice of three shitty Playstation 3 games. He points you over to the display and you look for the right lenght of cable you are going to need.
WTF!?!?! $100 Fucking dollars for an HDMI cable? Are you shitting me? Nope. You look at the open box and generic brands. No dice. You cannot find a cable for less than $65. Your DVD Upscaler only cost $99. You drive to the other big box retailer. Same story. You accept that this is the price you pay for that sweet, sweet, picture.
Nope. Sorry. You have been the latest victim to get absolutely jail house raped at your local electronics super store. The dirty obvious secret is that the big electronics retailers are all but price fixing on small items like audio and video cables. They carry very few brand and absolutely ram them up your ass on a huge mark-up. How huge?
Check out monoPrice.com Just how much is the markup on something like an HDMI cable? Here is a simple 10ft cable priced at $7.10. How much better is the cable that is over 10 times more expensive? Check AVSFORUMS for guys who build home theatre systems for tens of thousands of dollars, and they will tell you there is no difference.
Why do the big box retailers fuck you so hard? Because they can, and because they get away with it. If you think they’ll screw you that hard on cables, how good a deal do you actually think you are getting on that television anyways?
